If you’ve ever visited us at WorkShop chances are you’ve met Yoav. Yoav is a brilliantly talented photographer and collaborator and has worked on many different projects with fellow WorkShop members. We sat down with him to chat about his career as a photographer, and why being part of WorkShop is valuable for him and his business.
When did you first become interested in photography?
‘Since the age of 13 I have had a camera that my parents bought me. In my mid twenties I became more serious about photography. From 30, it has now become my profession and main source of income.’
Where do you get your inspiration from?
‘I get my inspiration from movies, music and scrolling through Instagram.’
Do you have any advice for anyone wanting to get into photography?
‘Try to understand as much about light as you can; how it falls, how to shape it… Look around and try to understand the different ways natural light falls around us and how you can mimic it. On the practical side I would say just keep shooting as much as you can. If you have the opportunity to be an assistant for a professional photographer go for it! Experience is the best way to learn.’
What do you value about being a member at WorkShop?
‘I think the biggest advantage for me as a photographer is networking with the people you meet in the WorkShop community. Besides the obvious benefit of finding work, I really enjoy and value the connections and the personal relations you can make here, socially and professionally.’
